Ambulatory (Out-Patient)
The Ambulatory unit is a nursing service render to all our patients in the clinics. The unit consist of all the outpatient clinics, day care centers, specialize services where patient will come either with or without appointments.
The Clinics/Unit provides the general public a wide range of outpatient services under 8 main specialties, which is:
- Specialist consultation and referral services
- Follow up care for out patients and patients discharged from wards in UMMC
- Maintenance care for patients with chronic illnesses such as hypertension( high blood pressure, diabetes and asthma.)
Patients with appointment are advised to come according to the appointment date & time written on the appointment card (Blue card) as to avoid long waiting hours. Please bring along the appointment card. If you are payable patients please bring sufficient amount of money or any guarantee letter, pensioner card, social worker card or letter from school for school children. Please do not miss any of your follow up in any of the clinics especially Medical Clinic because this will cause shortage in your medication supply.

For minor surgery, Urodynamic examination, Extracoporal shock wave lithothripsy (ESWL – this procedures will be done only with the request by the Urology doctors at the Surgical Clinic
For Urodynamic and ESWL – this procedures will be done at 5th Floor in Menara Timur.
For minor surgery will be done in the minor operation theatre in Orthopedic Clinic.
Blood taking services only will be done on Thursday for cases which requested by doctor before follow up dates

Patients who undergo any of the services above as outpatients need to bring their relatives or friends to accompany them back home, because a sedation will be given to them and this unable them to drive home.
Daycare Service
Daycares units provides service for patients who need daycare treatment such as chemotherapy or minor examination and discharge once the treatment/procedure completed. Daycare service consists of Gynecology on the 10th floor, Pediatric on the 11th floor of Menara Utama and Urodynamic on the 5th floor Menara Timor and Haematology daycare on the 6th floor Menara Timur.
Daycare Dialysis unit (8TE) provides haemodialysis, continuous ambulatory peritoneal Dialysis (CAPD), Automated Peritoneal Dialysis (APD) and continuous venovenous haemodialysis, (CVVHD) for critically ill patients. Follow up services include haemodialysis clinic, CAPD clinic, transplant clinic and vascular access clinic.
Clinical Oncology
Expert consultation sessions are provided by the oncologists (clinical & medical) to new and follow up patients.
The patients, who are on radiotherapy and chemotherapy are also being reviewed at the clinic at appointed date/ time.
- All new or follow up patients are attended to, only with appointments made at the clinic appointment counter.
- All new patients are required to present the following on the 1st visit:
- Patient’s identification card / passport
- Referral letter from internal / external specialist.
- Histopathology reports
- MRI, X Rays, and all types of scans e.g. CT, PET, Bone etc.
- Blood result
Blood taking service is provided only to patients who attend this clinic.
Group/ individual patient education sessions are given by nurses.

Introduction
The main function of this unit is to provide space for patients who are going back and waiting for their family to fetch, collect their medication if any, receive health education accordingly and to settle their bills

Ante Natal Clinic
Antenatal clinic is located on the ground floor of the Maternity Unit. The clinic provides services to all pregnant as well as post delivery mothers and immunization for the newborn babies at 6 weeks old.

Besides urine and blood investigation, height will be taken once during the pregnancy and weight will be taken for each follow up (revisit), including Blood pressure.
Deposit need to be paid for payable patients – RM 500 for those mothers who are not payable, they are requested to bring their guarantee letter.

HIGHLIGHTS OF UNIT ACTIVITIES
Intensive Care Unit (ICU)
The Intensive Care Unit (ICU) which is situated on the third floor of Menara Utama accommodates critically ill patients, high dependency patients, who need respiratory support and continuous haedmodynamic monitoring. ICU admits patients from the Trauma & Emergency Unit, the Operation Theatre (post operative cases) or referred cases from the various wards in UMMC and renal transplant cases (recipient).
Cardiothoracic Intensive Care Unit (CICU)
Cardiothoracic Intensive Care Unit (CICU) admits patients who have undergone open heart and lung surgeries. Such operations are: Coronary Artery By-Pass Graft, Valves Replacement, Closure of ASD and VSD, Total Correction of Tetralogy Of Fallots, Blalock Shunt and Ligation of PDA. Lung cases such as Lobectomy, Pneumonectomy and drainage of abscess are also admitted here post operatively. Other cases like Thymectomy and Aneurysyms are also admitted here for intensive care. It is a 9 bedded ward, however only 6 beds are functioning due to inavailabity of manpower, especially nursing.
Ward 4U (Cardiology and Coronary Unit)
Ward 4U is a Cardiac Ward which consists of the Coronary Care Unit (CCU), High Dependency Unit and the General Cardiology Ward. Majority of patients admitted to this ward are those with myocardial infarction, unstable angina, cardiac arrhythmia, heart failure, patients requiring cardiac interventions such as the insertion of a permanent pacemaker, angiogram and angioplasty.
Special Care Nursery (SCN)
Special Care Nursery is a place for the care of the premature, high risk and low birth-weight infant and the sick newborn who require intensive care or high dependency care. It aims to reduce the mortality and morbidity in the preterm infants by early and prompt interventions.
Ward Paediatric One
Ward Paediatric One consists of two specialized units, the Paediatric Intensive Care Unit and the Bone Marrow Transplant Unit. It is also a tertiary referral centre for the critically ill children.
Labour Ward
Labour ward consists of 10 delivery beds and 6 “induction of labour” beds. Cases conducted here are Spontaneous Vertex Delivery, Assisted Breech Delivery and Low Forceps Delivery. Postnatal care is also carried out such as Post partum haemorrhage, monitoring of patient with cardiac diseases and Pregnancy Induced Hypertension. Besides that Premature Labour and Induction of Labour are being cared at the labour ward too.
Operation Theatre (OT)
Operation Theatre (OT) consists of 12 operating rooms of various disciplines. There are 8 elective lists running concurrently from Mondays to Fridays commencing from 8.30 am to 5 pm. 3 operating rooms are allotted for emergency operations 24 hours a day.
To meet to the immediate need for post operative intensive care a 2 – bedded area, Post Anaesthetic Surgical Care Area (PASCA), was set up in the Recovery Ward on 3.8.1998.
With advances in operating technology, the main operating theatre will work towards minimal invasive surgeries and with the yearly increase in number of surgeries, 6 more operating rooms have been added to the existing Operating Suite.
Obstetric Theatre (OBST OT)
Obstetric theatre consists of two rooms. There are elective lists and emergency running from Mondays to Friday from 9.30 am to 4.30 am.
Minor Operation Theatre (MOT)
Minor Operation Theatre consisting of two operating rooms and caters for elective minor surgery for orthopedic, general surgery, urology and plastic .Operating hours is from 8 am to 5 pm.
Day Care Surgery
Day Care Surgery provides day surgery operating with two theatres. It caters for general surgery, orthopaedic, ophthalmology, ENT, plastic, paediatric and urology cases as elective surgery. Operations are done from 8 am to 2 pm daily Mondays to Fridays. Operational hours start at 7 am till 5 pm.
Obstetric Theatre (OBST OT)
Obstetric theatre consists of two rooms. There are elective and emergency operations running from Mondays to Friday from 9.00 am to 4.30 pm.
Anaesthesiology Unit
Basically the setting up of the unit consists of 2 areas Reception and Recovery. This unit will cater for all types of Elective and Emergency operations. All Elective cases done during office hours and Emergency cases are carried out for 24 hours. This unit provides high quality nursing care to patient pre and post operatively.
Sterile Supply Unit
Sterile Supply Unit consists of Central Sterile Supply Unit which supplies sterile sets and packs to all services of the hospital and Theatre Sterile Supply Unit supplies sterile sets and packs for operation theatre used only.
